Fatally shot teen brandished two knives

A police report says the Carolina Forest High School teenager fatally shot by the school’s resource officer had two knives when he attacked the officer. A report released by Horry County law enforcement authorities said Lance Corporal Marcus Rhodes was able to take one of the┬áknives from 16 year old Trevor Varinecz, but the student still had the second knife when Rhodes shot him as school started last Friday. The report says that Rhodes had several puncture marks on the back of his uniform shirt. Rhodes was treated and released from the hospital. The coroner reports that Varinecz was shot five times. The fatal wound was to the chest. Rhodes is currently on medical leave.
According to reports, Varinecz had a mild form of autism known as Asperger’s syndrome. People with Asperger’s syndrome show significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.
