Gambling ring arrests in Dillon sign of larger problem

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and local law enforcement in Dillon made arrests in a large scale gambling raid Tuesday. Captain Kin (KEN) McKenzie from SLED’s Pee Dee Region:
“We arrested nine individuals. They were charged with opperating a gambling house. Some of them were charged with possession of marijuana, some of them made illegal weapons, moonshine, an illegal video poker machine. We found, in one search warrant we did, they actually opened an illegal bar with no license at all.”
McKenzie says they seized more than 17-thousand dollars in cash and six vehicles in what he describes as an operation that reaches beyond the state.
“This type of activity has been fairly familiar to law enforcement for many years.  It involves tip boards, betting on football games and national basketball games and national football games.  This is not only state wide, but Nation wide.”
SLED worked with Dillon Police and Sheriff’s department, also bringing in the U-S Marshal Service.
