Pelicans hot at the right time.

The Lincoln Saltdogs are set to host game one of the American Association Championship Series which begins tonight at 7:05 at Haymarket Park against the Pensacola Pelicans. The Pelicans won the second half of the South Division with a record of 29-19. They beat Ft. Worth three games to one, who were league champs in 2006 and 2007. The Pelicans had to overcome some adversity. On their way to Ft. Worth Sunday night into Monday, their bus got a flat tire and they were stranded on the road.
The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Pensacola’s Chase Burch is the Rookie of the Year. The 6’1″ 245 pound Burch finished fourth in the league with a .341 average, and his nine home runs were second-best on the Pelicans.
Burch was hot from the start, hitting .404 in May. His .341 batting average ranked fourth in the league, and his .442 on-base percentage was third. After slugging .488, Burch found himself ranked fifth in the league.
They’re top pitcher is Randall Beam who went 10-7 this season with a 4.54 ERA in 20 starts.
