Big Red Report–offense roles taking shape

There are some pictures becoming a little more clearer on the offensive side of the ball and others that are still a little murky. In the race for the number two quarterback job, offensive coordinator Shawn Watson seems to be leaning toward true freshmen Cody Green over converted linebacker Latravis Washington.
Expect a final decision by the end of the week which will come one week before the September 5th kickoff against Florida Atlantic.
Watson also said former wide receiver Marcus Mendoza is making a strong push for a spot among the top three running back positions. We saw a year ago with Marlon Lucky, Castille and Helu that three running backs can provide a nice running combo. I would expect to see quite a bit of Mendoza this season.
With the non conference schedule, we’ll see a lot of rotation as this position shakes out into mid to late September before Big 12 play.
There are still some questions on the offensive line, but one player Watson has been impressed with in early fall camp is DJ Jones.
