More than 6000 SC consumers affected by security breach

Thousands of South Carolinianswho conduct online transactions with merchants could be affected by a security breach.
Network Solutions, a company that helps small- and middle-sized businesses do sales over the Internet, has notified the state Department of Consumer Affairs that personal information could be compromised for more than 66-hundred consumers.
Officials say the security breach was discovered July 13th, and happened when someone diverted data from Network Solutions servers to a location outside the company.
Maria Audasworks with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs.  “Network Solutions provides the software to process online payments.  So the information compromised includes credit card numbers, security codes,  mailing addresses, that sort of thing.”
Audas says affected consumers will receive a letter.   “Consumers who may be affected are being notified by TransUnion, which is sending letters telling where their personal information may have been compromised and instructing how to get a free 12-month credit monitoring service, which Network Solutions is paying for.”
