By next summer, the world’s largest clay sculptured head will be in downtown Lincoln. Artist James Tyler is molding the piece right now in his New York studio and will be eventually on permanent display in Union Plaza as part of the Antelope Valley project In Lincoln. Tyler says the piece, called The Colossus is going to represent Nebraska’s groundwater resources. Tyler says the 20,000 pound piece could be the largest of its kind anywhere. The sculpture will be brought to Lincoln in pieces and assembled in Lincoln next June. The piece was commissioned by the Lincoln Parks Department and will be paid for by donors to the Parks Foundation. Tyler tells us that the only other clay sculpture that comes close is in Ohio.
