61 leads Cox Classic, Crick and Hurley battle

Ideal conditions called for low scoring in Thursday’s first round of the Cox Classic in Omaha on the Nationwide Tour. 104 golfers broke par, while another 17 shot par. South African Garth Mulroy shot a 61, to finish 10 under and top the leaderboard. Matt Every chipped one in from 60 feet away on 18 to eagle and finish 9 under. Lincoln High and NU grad Scott Friesen is five under tied for 13th.
One shot is all that separates Brandon Crick and John Hurley in the Nebraska Amateur Championships. Both shot 69. Crick maintains his one shot lead. Still hanging in there five back is Andrew Storm of Omaha. The final round today. Crick and Hurley have not shot a round in the 70’s yet at Ironwood.
