O-Royals open second half with home loss

The Omaha Royals opened the second half of their season with a late inning melt down and an 11-6 loss to visiting Memphis on Thursday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The game was tied 4-4 after seven, but in the eighth, the Redbirds scored four runs off Doug Waechter who is rehabbing for Kansas City. Memphis added three more runs off relief pitcher Victor Marte.
Brian Barden led Memphis with 4 for 5 night at the plate with four RBI. Scott Thorman had two hits and drove in two runs for Omaha.
Omaha starter Kyle Davies struck out six in 3.2 innings, after throwing 96 pitches. Davies gave up three runs, two earned, in a no-decision.  Heath Phillips starts Friday in game two of the series.
