Tour De Nebraska is off and rolling

Hundreds of bicyclists are hitting the roads in northeast Nebraska this week. The annual Tour De Nebraska bike tour began this morning in Platte Center — with a stop planned tonight in Tilden.

Tour spokeswoman Susan Rodenburg says she and her husband, Rich, who own a Lincoln bicycle shop, started the Tour in 1988 because customers expressed disappointment they could not get on the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska.

She calls northeast Nebraska one of their favorite places to tour. Rodenburg says most of the 215 riders on this tour’s ride hail from Nebraska — while others come from 15 different states.

The 317-mile tour will head to Tilden tonight, Bloomfield tomorrow, Ponca on Friday, then on to West Point Saturday and back to Platte Center on Sunday.
