Saltdogs drop fifth in a row

The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped their fifth in a row overall Tuesday, losing 6-3 to the Sioux City Explorers. Lincoln now stands at 9-16 on the season.
The Explorers pounded out 18 hits on the nights, but 17 of them were singles. Lincoln starter Jarrett Gardner (4-1) gave up four runs on nine hits in three innings. Gardner’s night was cut short when he was tossed out for arguing balls and strikes. Pitching coach Matt Nokes was kicked out earlier for arguing balls and strikes from the first base coaching box.
After Sioux City took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, Lincoln’s Josh Burrus hit a two-run home run. Burrus also had an RBI single in the fifth inning, driving in all three of the Dogs’ runs on the night, but Lincoln managed just one hit after the fifth inning.
Lincoln will try to avoid the sweep Wednesday night at 7:05pm. Lefty Vince Davis is scheduled to make the start for the Saltdogs.
