Abortion bill passes

The debate over abortion resumed on the floor of the Unicameral Wednesday afternoon. State Senators passed a bill that would require abortion doctors to provide an ultrasound image to women considering an abortion.  The women would not be forced to look.
The bill passed comfortably on a first round vote, but the debate was heated and emotional throughout. Opponents say the bill is an effort to just make women feel bad about a decision they have made. Supporters say the ultrasound image is necessary information in order to make an informed decision.
An amendment that would have allowed the image to not have been shown in cases of rape and incest failed.
