Lethal injection bill advances

Nebraska is one step closer to having lethal injection as the sole means of carrying out a death sentence. On a vote of 34 to 7, Senators voted to do just that.  That group includes Speaker Mike Flood of Norfolk.
“We have a good system in Nebraska, there is a reason only 11 people are on death row, and that is because the bar is awfully high to secure a death sentence in this state, and it should be.”
An amendment from Senator Brenda Council of Omaha asked that the death penalty be removed from law in Nebraska – it was overwhelmingly defeated.
