The Mavericks season came to an end Saturday as Central Missouri won 14-1 in an elimination game in the NCAA South Central Region tournament at Crane Stadium.
27th-ranked Nebraska-Omaha fell to 41-20. The Mavs won their first game of the NCAA tournament Thursday and then lost in the second round earlier Saturday, 13-8 to Emporia State.
The Mules hit a pair of solo home runs in the top of the first, just the second and third of the year off Maverick starter Kyle Dahman. They continued to add runs and built a 7-0 lead after four innings and a 12-0 lead after they batted in the seventh.
The Mavericks broke the shutout when Matt Eikmeier led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and then Brett Koehn drove him in with a sacrifice fly.
Central Missouri answered that with two more runs in the top of the eighth, but there wasnt’ much the Mavs could do with UCM pitcher Mitch Stubenhofer who pitched the complete game and allowed 11 hits with a strikeout and no walks.
