State Fair groundbreaking held up

There are some important dates right around the corner for the Nebraska State Fair. Legislators voted last year to move the states largest fair from its longtime home in Lincoln to Grand Island. Lisa Willman is the State Fair Coalition Coordinator. She says Grand Island was challenged with raising $1.5 million in order to move the fair to their community, and so far they are more than halfway there. Willman says one of the frustrating things is that no one can break ground until they overcome one major hurdle in the process – A Lawsuit.
The first hearing in the lawsuit is set for June 9th, and the deadline for certifying funds is July 1st. Willman says thats a small window and deadlines are stacking up, but those involved are confident that if the lawsuit is thrown out or ruled in favor of the fair board and the money is raised, the state fair will be up and running on time.
