Bellevue advances to MCAC baseball final

Senior right hander Justin Long recorded a season-high 13 strikeouts in leading 11th-ranked Bellevue University to a 4-0 shutout over Peru State in a winner’ s bracket game at the 2009 Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament Tuesday afternoon at Epsing Family Field.
The Bruins (38-10) advance to the championship game of the tournament on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
Peru State (30-21) will play in an elimination game tonight at 6 p.m. against the winner of today’s Park-York contest.
Long improved to 7-4 on the season in recording his second shutout of 2009.
Both teams collected six hits as neither team threatened to score after the second inning.
Louie Templeton’s RBI single to right center field drove in leadoff hitter Matty Johnson to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Templeton came home on a fielding error by the Bobcats’ shortstop Brandon Schrupp to make it 2-0.
Bellevue plated two more runs in the second frame. Johnson’s stand-up triple to deep center field drove in Chad Lambert who reached on a walk. Jake Jadlowski ‘s sacrifice bunt allowed Lambert to score to extend the BU margin to 4-0.
