Oltman sets MVC record for wins

Michelle Graner’s two-out, two-strike walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Creighton to a 3-1 victory over Wichita State on Sunday afternoon.
Two-time Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year Tara Oltman (28-10) broke the conference record with her 85th career victory. Just a junior, Oltman delivered 183 pitches while completing her 30th straight complete start. She struck out 10 and allowed six hits, but none after the fifth inning in the victory. The former MVC record of 84 wins was held by Southern Illinois’ Amy Harre (2002-05).
The win closed out a 34-15 regular-season for the three-time reigning MVC champion Bluejays, including a 19-6 league mark.
Creighton returns to action on Friday at noon in the semifinals of the State Farm MVC Tournament, which will be held in East Peoria, Ill.
The Bluejays will play the winner of Thursday’s 4 p.m., quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Drake and the winner of the Illinois State vs. Indiana State game played at 11 am., on Thursday to open the tournament.
