School funding fight rolls on

A showdown between Nebraska’s large school districts and supporters of a school-funding plan is underway in the legislature. Lawmakers began debating the proposal Monday that means less money than expected for many of the state’s larger school districts.
Under the current change, the state would do less to help large districts spend as much per student as is spent by smaller districts. There would, however, be an average 10 percent increase in state funding among all 254 districts next year.
