Josh Newman (1-0) followed with 3.0 scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits. Lenny DiNardo earned his 2nd save, firing 4.0 shutout stanzas, striking out 4.
The Royals scored the only run they needed in the 3rd on Travis Metcalf’s sac fly, but Kila Ka’aihue provided insurance in the 5th by corking a 2-run homer. It came off Miguel Pinango (1-2), who took the loss, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings.
Monday the Omaha Royals host the Albuquerque Isotopes in an 11:05 a.m. game at Rosenblatt Stadium. It’s the finale of a 4-game series, which the ‘Topes lead 2-1.
