The Wayne State College baseball team is ranked second in the first NCAA Division II Baseball Central Region Rankings released by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In games played through Sunday, April 12, the Wildcats are 24-8 overall and 18-4 against team within the region.Mesa State of Colorado tops the initial Central Region Rankings with a 34-5 record followed by Wayne State, New Mexico Highlands (28-12), CSU-Pueblo (30-13) and Minnesota State (22-10) in the top five. Winona State (19-10), Southwest Minnesota State (15-4) and St. Cloud State (29-9) round out the top eight teams. The top six teams in the region at the end of the regular season will advance to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament at the site of the top seed.
Wayne State, ranked 17th (NCBWA) and 23rd (DII Coaches Poll) in NCAA Division II baseball, is playing this afternoon (Wednesday) at Augustana College and is slated to play at Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota on Saturday and Sunday.
