Creighton will be going for its fourth straight win on Wednesday when the Bluejays host the Kansas State Wildcats.
CU is coming off a three-game sweep of conference rival Southern Illinois this past weekend. In the first two games of the doubleheader on Saturday, the Bluejays won their first two one-run games of the year, after being 0-9 in games decided by two runs or less heading into the day
The Jays were aided by Vicente Cafaro’s hidden ball trick to end the second game on Saturday, before using the run rule to complete the sweep, 10-0 on Sunday. A wild finish to that game.
Southern Illinois had runners on first and second with two outs, when Tony Lepore hit a single to right, advancing Jordan Silverstein. T.J. Roemmich then threw the ball into the infield and Cafaro went to the pitcher’s mound, making everyone in the crowd believe he was giving the ball to the pitcher Matt Patterson. However, Cafaro kept the ball instead and after making sure the umpire was aware of the situation, he tagged Silverstein who was taking his lead from second, for the final out of the game.
