Even though it was the first spring practice, head coach Bo Pelini expected sloppy play, but he’s already looking for improvement after sending the players through 2 1/2 hours of drills on Wednesday.
Pelini enters his second spring season with a team that returns 13 starters but still much room for improvement for a team that went 9-4 in 2008, including victories in six of their final seven games, and capped the season with a Gator Bowl win over Clemson.
He has a secondary that needs to improve on his six interceptions and a quarterback situation that for the time being is a bit unstable. Freshmen Cody Green has a minor hip injury. Patrick Witt is gone and NU is turning to linebacker LaTravis Washington to move to the QB position.
