Continental Tire North America opens new headquarters in SC

Continental Tire North America officially opened the doors to their new headquarter building in South Carolina earlier this week. Located in Lancaster County for the last 10 years, the company decided to remain there after considerations to move the headquarters to Illinois or even to Detroit. CEO Mattias Schoenburg says his company feared losing quality employees to attrition if they had moved away from South Carolina. Continental Tire moved the operation into a brand new building Monday morning located in Indian Land on MacMillan Park Drive. There was a ceremony highlighted by a building tour and presentations. Schoenburg explains why staying in South Carolina was so attractive to his company. “We were just afraid of the attrition in case we would move out of the Carolinas,” said Schoenburg.

“This is why we decided to stay here. We have a lot people here and we don’t want them to move around. We also find that the Carolinas is a very attractive place to be located due to the international affect we have here and due to the fact that it’s a great place to live. We feel it’s easy to attract talent into the Carolinas.”
The new headquarters employs 375 people.
Schoenburg says Continental Tire received assistance from the local and state government and was grateful for their support. “They worked very well with us and we are very thankful to the cooperation to help us selecting the site. They helped us in how to develop the site and they also gave us incentives for all the jobs we create here.”
Schoenburg says the new building has a more open and modern layout that will improve internal communications.
