The Nebraska baseball team has a knack for pulling out games. This one was almost unimaginable. The Huskers turned a 3-1 deficit in the 9th inning into a 7-4 win over 15th ranked Arkansas.
The Huskers are now 12-6-1 after going 2-3 on this latest five game road trip. NU rallied off Arkansas with one out in the ninth thanks to a pair of walks and five straight hits off the Razorbacks bullpen.
One out walks to Ben Kline and pinch hitter Cody Asche put the tying run on base for the Huskers before Cory Burleson’s wild infield single turned the tide.
Burleson hit a chopper to first which Arkansas first baseman Andy Wilkins backhanded, but threw wildly to first, allowing Kline to score. Asche then came around to score the tying run, knocking the ball away from Razorback catcher Robert Cisterna to make it a 3-3 game.
NU followed with RBI singles from DJ Belfonte and Kyle Bubak to make it 5-3. Adam Bailey provided the knockout blow on a deep blast to right center. It was Bailey’s 9th home run of the year which leads the Big 12.
Mike Nesseth (3-1) earned the win in relief, fanning four over two innings as the right-hander struck out the final three Arkansas hitters he faced after Wilkins’ second homer to open the ninth cut the Husker lead to 7-4.
The Huskers return to action on Friday when the Huskers host No. 11 Oklahoma State in a three-game series at Hawks Field. Friday’s first pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
