Nebraska hospitals eating the cost

A new report shows Nebraska hospitals gave out more than $700 billion in free care to patients in 2007. That’s according to Kelly Porter of the Nebraska Hospital association.
“With traditional charity care and bad debt, I believe in the next year or so it will increase and it will continue climbing.”
Porter says the bad economy and the number of people losing their insurance is making it tougher for hospitals to move forward on construction projects and hiring.
