Creighton/Nebraska headed for NIT

The Creighton Bluejays will head to the postseason for a league record 12th consecutive season, accepting a bid to the National Invitation Tournament on Sunday night. The Bluejays (26-7) will play on Wednesday, March 18, at 7 pm Central against Bowling Green (19-13) at Qwest Center Omaha.
Creighton enters the postseason with a 26-7 record after tying for the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title with Northern Iowa. Creighton has not played since having its 11-game winning streak snapped by Illinois State in the semifinals of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on March 7th. The Bluejays are led by MVC Player the Year Booker Woodfox (15.9 ppg.) as well as senior point guard Josh Dotzler (3.2 ppg., 2.1 spg.).
The Bluejays enter the NIT as a No. 1 seed and will take on the eighth-seeded Falcons. The Wednesday night match up will take place at Qwest Center Omaha.
Bowling Green won a share of the East Division title of the Mid-American Conference with an 11-5 conference record and are 19-13 overall. The Falcons are led by all-MAC performer Nate Miller, a 6-4 senior forward. Miller leads BG with 13.5 points per game.
Four days after being knocked out of the Big 12 Championship, the Nebraska Cornhuskers found new life as they learned Sunday evening that they were chosen for a spot in the 32-team field for the 2009 Master Card National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
The Huskers, who finished with their first .500 standing in league play in a decade, earned a No. 6 seed and will play at No. 3 seed New Mexico. The teams will face off on Tuesday, March 17, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at 9 p.m. Central (8 p.m. MT) in a game televised on ESPNU. 
Nebraska enters the postseason with an 18-12 overall record after falling in the first round of the league tournament. The Huskers earned their chance to compete again this season following a solid run in the Big 12 Conference, where NU went 8-8 for its first .500 season since 1998-99. New Mexico is 21-11 this season.
