Kearney school boss gets prisontime for $500K theft

The woman who oversaw the Kearney Public School Foundation is headed to prison. Angeles Regenos was the foundation’s executive director for more than a decade, but Tuesday she was sentenced in Buffalo County District Court for felony theft.
Prosecutors say Regenos embezzled more than a half-million dollars from the agency during the past three years. The judge sentenced her to between nine and 18 years in prison.
Also, the Kearney schools group has filed suit against Regenos and her husband, Marc, alleging they conspired to steal the money and used it to buy all sorts of things, including their house and cars. The case is still pending.
