Creighton wins 7th in a row

Five Bluejays scored in double figures as Creighton beat Evansville in an exciting back and forth game,  89-84 at Qwest Center.  The win for Dana Altman’s team is their seventh in a row and they are a half game behind Northern Iowa for the conference lead.
What’s more impressive about this win streak is that the Jays have won three of these seven on the road.
This game wasn’t easy.  Evansville boasts two of the top scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference and they scored their share of points.  Jason Holsinger scored 30 and Shy Ely had 26.  The Jays just gave them too much room to catch and shoot.
Cavel Witter carried CU down the stretch, scoring nine straight points in the final four minutes.  Creighton saw its 80-73 lead dwindle thanks in part to a four-point play from Holsinger. The Purple Aces got as close as one point (85-84) with 21 seconds left on two Ely free throws before two shots at the stripe from Witter gave CU a three-point lead and 17 seconds left. That set up Ely’s open look from the corner that rimmed long and was grabbed by Carter.
89 points is the highest output for the Jays this year.  Their Bracket buster game is this Saturday night on ESPNU against George Mason.
