The University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks Chris Weimer and Dustin Koca have signed professional baseball contracts.
Weimer signed with the Chicago Cubs in January. He will report to the team’s spring training facility in Arizona this month. Weimer was a 2008 First Team All-American and was later named the 2008 UNO Male Athlete of the Year after batting 405 batting average while also compiling team bests in hits (92), home runs (23) and RBI (77) in his senior season at UNO.
Koca, a 2008 First Team All-American, signed a professional contract with the Evansville (Ind.) Otters of the Frontier League. Koca played right field and pitched. Koca was named to the all-NCC team and was a first team All-Central Region pick.
