The University of Nebraska at Omaha men’s basketball team suffered its first loss at the Sapp Fieldhouse this season, as the Fort Hays State University Tigers defeat the Mavericks 80-61 Wednesday night.
UNO (13-6, 7-5 MIAA) shot a season-low 35 percent from the field, while FHSU (13-5, 6-5 MIAA) converted on 44 percent of their shots and outrebounded the Mavs 44-29.
The Tigers had a 36-33 lead at the half and FHSU would add to their lead in the second half as they shot 50 percent from three and never let UNO get any closer than eight points in the second half.
The Mavericks had three players score in double figures and was led by Michael Jenkins who finished with 16 points. Mitch Albers, this week’s MIAA player of the week, scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
The Mavericks were ranked 9th in the first Division II regional rankings which were released on Wednesday. The Mavericks will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Northwest Missouri State.
