Horse racing has been around for decades in the state of Nebraska, but due to our low purse amounts and for other reasons, equine owners are traveling to neighboring states. A proposal to add slot machines to racing facilities is being pondered by a legislative committee. Horse enthusiast Jesse Compton says racing brings jobs to Nebraska.
“Each horse that runs, for example, requires a pony person, a trainer, typicaly a person that exercises that horse in the morning.”
Family First Director Dave Bydalek says slots bring addiction.
“In Las Vegas, 90% of female gambling addicts and about two-thirds of male gambling addicts are addicted to video gambling. We believe this video gambling addiction is called the crack cocaine of gambling for a reason.
If approved, some of the slot money would go to fixing highways in the state.
