On the day the city of Omaha broke ground on the new downtown ballpark, The Ricketts family which started TD Ameritrade are the winning bidders for the Chicago Cubs for an estimated $900 million.
The family grew up watching the Cubs in Omaha on WGN-TV like many fans across the country. The two sons Tom and Pete lived in Wrigleyville when they went to graduate school.
Tom even met his wife Cecilia in the bleachers.
You know, with Omaha just breaking ground on a new ballpark, if the O-Royals don’t want it, maybe the Ricketts can move the Iowa Cubs a couple of hours west of Des Moines? Just a thought!
