Creighton wins fifth in a row

Booker Woodfox had a game-high 17 points, including three-pointers on three straight second-half possessions, as the Creighton men’s basketball team defeated Southern by a 71-60 score on Monday night in Omaha.
The game was the second of four contests Creighton will play in the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Classic. Creighton is now 8-2 with its season-high fifth straight win, while Southern (0-8) remained winless in eight games.
Creighton outscored Southern 12-1 in the first five minutes of the game and never trailed. Woodfox had five points and P’Allen Stinnett four points in the early spurt.
Creighton coach Dana Altman was not very happy with the team’s energy after that point as the Jaguars closed to within four (31-27) with about four minutes left in the first half.
Cavel Witter ignited a 7-0 run that helped CU extend its lead to 40-29 at the half. Stinnett had five of CU’s 11 steals in the first 20 minutes, as the Jays forced 18 turnovers in the first half.
