Suspect phones in bomb threat during chase

Nebraska state troopers say a fleeing criminal tried to use a creative tactic to throw them off his trail during a chase last night, but it didn’t work.
The incident started around 9 PM when a trooper spotted a pickup with no rear taillights and pulled it over in Madison County. A check of the man’s driver’s license revealed he was wanted on felony drug charges in Lancaster County.
When confronted, the suspect sped off and the trooper gave chase. The suspect dumped the truck and fled on foot and was found hiding in a garage and arrested.
Minutes before, a bomb threat was called into the Norfolk Walmart. The store was evacuated and searched but it was later determined the suspect made the call from his cell phone while being chased.
36-year-old William Applebaum of Letcher, South Dakota, is jailed in Madison County on a host of charges.
