The official announcement of a Gator Bowl bid for the Nebraska Cornhuskers is put on hold at least until Sunday. The Gator Bowl may have jumped the gun a bit and need to hold off on their announcement. It’s on today’s Big Red Report.
I’ve also talked to a couple of people, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Clemson were the schools thrown out there as possible opponents. I’m hearing now it’s almost a sure thing that Clemson will be the other selection. They’re a program in transition, their longtime coach Tommy Bowden was let go, and their defensive coordinator resigned yesterday.
The players had Tuesday off, they’ll be back on the practice field today for what will be a pretty short practice. In fact, head coach Bo Pelini will not be there today. He’s on the recruiting trail and I’m told he’s out in California.
Nebraska has signed a contract with the University of Wyoming for three non-conference football games in the next eight years. The three games will be played in 2011, 2013 and 2016 with two contests in Lincoln and one in Laramie, Wyo. The first meeting between the Huskers and Cowboys will take place on Sept. 24, 2011, at Wyoming. The Cowboys will make a trip to Lincoln on Aug. 31, 2013, and again on Sept. 17, 2016. Interesting side note, Wyoming just hired Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christensen to be their head coach who replaced Lincoln native Joe Glenn, so you can expect to see that spread offense.
