Day one of the pool play completed at the 2008 NAIA Volleyball National Championship and 10 of the 12 top seeds won their matches. No. 4 Bellevue defeated No. 22 Doane 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 19-25, 15-10 on Tuesday in the first match of pool play in the NAIA national volleyball tournament. Bellevue (31-4) will play Vanguard (Calif.) today at 11 a.m. Doane (27-9) will meet Lindenwood (Mo.) today at 1:15 p.m. Lindenwood defeated Vanguard in four sets yesterday.
No. 1 Fresno Pacific (Calif.), No. 3 Concordia (Calif.), No. 7 California Baptist, No. 8 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and No. 10 Northwestern (Iowa) all swept their matches in three games. No. 2 Biola (Calif.), No. 5 Columbia (Mo.), No. 6 Georgetown (Ky.) and No. 9 Lindenwood (Mo.) won their matches 3-1 while No. 4 Bellevue (Neb.) survived in five games. Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) defeated No. 12 Morningside (Iowa), 3-1 and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) knocked off No. 11 Madonna (Mich.), 3-2 for the upsets of the day.
