Hunter shot in Gage County, Sheriff investigates

Gage County Sheriff’s officers continue to investigate a weekend hunting accident, that sent one man to a hospital in Lincoln. He is identified as 58 year old Ronald Wieters of Odell. Sheriff Millard Gustafson says law officers and emergency medical services personnel were sent to an area near Odell in southwestern Gage County Sunday afternoon.
Few details are available about the accident, which happened one mile north and one west of Odell. Gustafson says officials are still sorting out matters.
Gustafson says he believes the man injured was with a deer hunting party. He said he did not know what type of weapon was involved in the accident, nor how many others were with Wieters when he was shot.
A Beatrice Fire and Rescue Captain says the injured man was airlifted to Bryan LGH West Medical Center in Lincoln. Gustafson says interviews of the people who were there will be conducted to determine exactly how the accident happened. The man is listed in fair condition.
