On a vote of 43 to 5, Nebraska Legislators have adopted a new version of the Safe Haven Law that went into effect in July. The old bill only mentioned the word child and led to mostly teenagers being dropped off at Nebraska Hospitals. The original intent of the bill was to save infants from being harmed after birth. Because of that, Senators changed the law to only allow children to be dropped off that are 30 days or younger. With support from the Governor today, the new rules go into effect first thing Saturday.
