Sen. Hagel blasts pundits, his own party

Out-going Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel is offering a stinging assessment of well-known political commentators. During an address at the Johns Hopkins School of International Studies, Hagel attacked Rush Limbaugh and other commentators for trying -quote- “to rip everyone down.”
Hagel, a Republican, says most Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and the election of Democrat Barack Obama was “pretty predictable.”
In his words, Hagel says Americans reject the “raw, partisan, political paralysis” that has held the federal government “captive” during the Bush years. Hagel also attacked the foreign policy attitudes of the “know nothing” element in the G-O-P.
Hagel argued “engagement is not appeasement and diplomacy is not retreat” when it comes to talking with other countries.
