After Wednesday’s road defeat at Colorado, the Nebraska Cornhusker volleyball team dropped down to third in the AVCA coaches poll. The 21-1 Huskers, were No. 7 in the preseason poll, had spent nine straight weeks at No. 2 after opening the year with victories over Stanford and Southern California. The Huskers rebounded from the Colorado loss Saturday by beating Iowa State in four sets in Lincoln.
Defending national champion Penn State has topped every poll this year. The No. 1 Nittany Lions are 24-0 and haven’t lost a single set all season.
Stanford (19-3) moved up two spots to No. 2. NU at three, Texas is fourth, followed by Washington 5, Cal at 6. Hawaii moved up one spot to No. 7, while the rest of the top ten is rounded out with three more teams from the powerhouse Pac-10. Oregon is No. 8, UCLA is No. 9 and USC is tenth.
The Huskers next play at 6 p.m. road match on Wednesday at Texas A&M. Nebraska returns home Saturday to take on No. 15 Kansas State at 7 p.m at the Coliseum.
