The community of Neligh is still in disbelief after resident Marian Shabram was shot Monday afternoon while standing outside Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. Neligh Pinnacle Bank President Bill Bates says the community is rallying around the family and wanting to help.
“Everyone here was absolutely shocked.”
Shabram was visiting her husband when someone approached her and grabbed her purse and then fired a shot at close range hitting her in the chest. Bates say it is hard to believe that this happened in front of a hospital in broad daylight.
“We would like to believe that hospital parking lots are safe places.”
Bates says there are many benefits to living in a small town. When word hit the streets of what had happened, the community reacted.
“And couldn’t believe something like this would happen to someone from Neligh.”
A special fund has been established at all Pinnacle Bank branches. Shabram remains at Creighton University Medical Center. She was visiting her husband who is undergoing cancer treatment at Immanuel when she was shot.
