#11 Nebraska-Kearney swept #23 Wayne State in volleyball action on Wednesday evening in Wayne. Scores of the match were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23.
Nebraska-Kearney improved to 24-2 on the year with the win. Wayne State dropped to 19-4 with the loss. It was “Pack the House” night at Rice Auditorium. The attendance for the match was 1,203, which is the second highest attendance in Wayne State history, trailing only the 1,382 fans that attended the UNK at Wayne State game two years ago.
Nebraska-Kearney jumped out to early leads and held off late Wayne State rallies in each of the three sets. Nebraska-Kearney had a .234 team hitting percentage for the game compared to a .177 hitting percentage for the Wildcats. Jeri Walkowiak led the way for the Lopers with a game-high 16 kills. Nikki Scott added 12 kills and Chelsie Carson had 11 kills for the Lopers. Kelly Wemhoff and Shelby Workman each had 14 digs to lead UNK defensively. Setter Cola Svec handed out 40 assists and had 13 digs for the Lopers.
Freshman Mindy Moody had a team-high 10 kills for Wayne State.
