The fight to reclassify the fruity flavored Alcopops as distilled spirits failed in a meeting of the Nebraska liquor control commission. The drinks will continue to be taxed like beer about 12 times less than distilled spirits. Diane Riibe of Project Extra Mile is not happy.
“Our board of directors will determine whether or not they will revisit the lawsuit that we had against the commission, because again their ecision goes against Nebraska State law, so this is in our opinion an illegal decision.”
Riibe says the less expensive alcopops are, the more likely they will get into the hands of children.
