According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, salmonella is being found in a number of different pet foods, this after a 2007 recall of many pet foods after some deaths and widespread sickness in animals was reported. The new recall comes from dog and cat food manufacturer Mars Petcare U.S.
The recall includes several widely distributed brands of dry pet food including Pedigree, Special Kitty, Paws and Claws, Natural Dog Food, Red Flannel, Country Acres, Buju and Ziggie, Member’s Mark, Natural Cat Food, Retriever, Bruiser, Doggy Bag, P.M.I. Nutrition and Pet Pride.
Dr. Steven Hansen, the ASPCA’s Senior Vice President of Animal Health Services, says pet owners should also wash their hands after handling any potentially contaminated pet food. Also, immediately consult with a veterinarian if any signs or symptoms are noticed in your pets.
