Major cuts at Health and Human services

250 Nebraska Health and Human Services jobs are on the chopping block. It’s part of a plan to update the application process for the state’s welfare services.  Todd Landry, the head of Nebraska’s Children and Family Services, says that the impacts won’t be felt immediately.
“Over the next few years The Department of Health and Human Services, included in our budget proposal this week, in order to implement the project, “Access Nebraska”, which will re-engineer the way we do economic assistance delivery between now and the year 2012.”
Landry says he hopes most of those cuts will come through retirement and attrition. The move would save the state $8.4 million.
