Citizen-soldiers from the Husker State who’ve been in the New Orleans area for two weeks are headed home. Nebraska National Guard members should be back at their home bases soon after being deployed to Louisiana on September 3rd to help provide relief after the strike by Hurricane Gustov.
More than a thousand citizen-soldiers were involved in what’s believed to be the Nebraska Guard’s largest-ever out-of-state emergency response.
Of the hundreds of guardsmen sent from Nebraska, only about 20 will remain on the Gulf Coast for hurricane relief duty. Members of the 72nd Civil Support Team are in Galveston, Texas, helping out after Hurricane Ike.
