Police say a 15 year old was dropped off at a Lincoln Hospital Saturday night. The Nebraska Radio Network has also learned that an 11 year old was dropped off at an Omaha hospital on Saturday. It’s the first time the state’s safe haven law has been used, which allows children to be dropped off at hospitals with no charges being filed against the parents or guardians. Police Chief Tom Casady explains the situation with the 15 year old.
“Apparently his mother died several years ago and his guardian is his aunt. And she has been caring for him and has had increasing difficulty doing so due to some behavioral problems and trouble that he’s been involved in so she dropped him off at the hospital.”
The 15 year old is in foster care.
