A Nebraska-based student loan company is reaching a legal settlement. Lincoln-based Nelnet is among eight student loan companies that are coming to an agreement with the New York state attorney general’s office over allegations of deceptive marketing practices. The companies have agreed to pay 1.4 million dollars and adopt broad reforms. Nelnet and the others were accused of marketing products so they’d appear to be federal loans, pushing higher-interest private loans and using bait-and-switch tactics.
