HHS under fire for kid transport problems

Auditors say the Department of Health and Human Services isn’t doing enough to make sure government contractors are safely transporting foster kids. Legislative Performance Audit Committee Chair Lincoln State Senator Dianna Schimek tells us that the audit said the department didn’t adequately check contractors.
“We think perhaps there needs to be a 50 state criminal background check on anybody who might be transporting children under these circumstances.”
The findings follow the arrest early this year of a woman for having a blood alcohol level five times the legal limit while transporting a foster child in Sarpy County.
