The University of Nebraska-Omaha, and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association will become mavericks of sorts starting this upcoming season after the conference announced they would use shootouts to break overtime ties.
The league will become the first and likely the only of six hockey conferences in Division I men’s hockey to adopt the rule. It will be very similar to the NHL where three players a side will compete in a shootout if a regular season game is tied after 60 minutes of regulation play and five minutes of overtime.
