Brad Vering, who was a NCAA champion while wrestling at Nebraska is 1-1 in the qualification round of Greco-Roman style wrestling.
Vering opened with a 5-1 win over a competitor from Poland and then dropped an 8-2 decision to a wrestler from Armenia. Vering wrestles in the 185 pound weight classification.
Vering was a 2004 Olympian and won a silver medal at World Championships last year. He is favored to medal in these Olympics.
